Hamilton, without a doubt.
Whatever you think about all the hype, and I for one hate all that media s**t, he went through his first F1 season in fine style.
In his rookie year he had four wins, his first nine races were podium finishes, and he kept the car on the road more than any of the other real contenders.
He singularly failed to have a car destroying shunt in a whole season's racing (unlike the teammate who wanted him put down), and made virtually no rookie mistakes until the last two races. When he did get it wrong he offered no excuses, simply stating that "Everybody makes mistakes, and I messed up".
He managed to scare the living daylights out of all the top four drivers, and finish second in the WDC, in spite of all that the odious Max (I love Ferrari) Moseley threw at him and his team.
Hell, if he could do all that under extreme political pressure in his first season, there's going to be quite a lot of embarrassed silence from some around here in the not too distant future.
I was a staunch supporter of Herr Schumacher over the years, but I think we may have another racing genius in Lewis. Only time will tell, but I sure as hell am looking forward to the new season in a way I haven't experienced for about five years.
